Description How to Grow Delivery

Erect, cane-like stems rise up into crown of stiff, fish-tail-shaped leaves with prominent ribbed veins. The leaves bear a lovely, dark blue-green metallic sheen. Chamaedorea metallica will grow happily in a wide range of lighting conditions including shade, making it a great choice for adding some lush greenery to a drab corner. Plants can occasionally produce branching spikes of bright orange, purple or red flowers followed by small black fruits. Maximum height: 1-1.5m (3.2-5ft). Spread: 50cm (20in).

Chamaedorea metallica enjoys a wide range of lighting conditions: from full shade to bright, filtered light. Grow in average room temperatures of 18C (65F) - 24C (75F). Do not allow temperatures to fall below 12C (55F). Avoid positioning close to cold draughts and radiators. This palm is drought tolerant, but for best results keep the soil consistently moist during the growing season. Reduce watering over winter. Appreciates a humid atmosphere - stand it on a tray filled with pebbles and water. As the water evaporates it will increase humidity around the plant. Misting the foliage daily with a fine spray will also help to improve humidity. House plants should be fed regularly between March and September when they are in active growth.
