No herb garden should be without the humble chive! With aromatic, onion scented foliage the leaves make a superb garnish for salads and sandwiches or sprinkled over hot, buttery, new potatoes. These hardy perennials are easy to grow, returning year after year. Plant them in the kitchen garden, at the front of perennial borders, or in pots and window boxes just outside your back door. Height: 40cm (16”). Spread: 30cm (12").

Once established, chives require little aftercare. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps in spring.
Pot up Chive plants and grow them on in warm, frost free conditions. When all risk of frost is passed and the soil is warm, harden off and plant out in their final positions. Grow Chives in full sun on any well drained soil. Add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil to improve its structure and fertility prior to planting. When growing herbs, ensure that they are planted within easy reach of the kitchen.
