Cordyline ‘Torbay Red’ is an RHS award-winning variety with magnificent deep bronze-red foliage. It makes an excellent centrepiece for a container display or border scheme. The rich foliage colour provides an effective backdrop to vivid bedding whilst its spiky shape creates architectural drama, breaking up the monotony of mounding plants. Better still, Cordyline ‘Torbay Red’ provides colour, structure and interest well beyond the summer, remaining a focal point for winter bedding schemes. As its name suggests, it’s a smart choice for seaside gardens where it will tolerate salt-laden coastal winds. Resilient and low maintenance, it also copes with pollution and is brilliant for small urban spaces such as terraces, balconies and courtyards. Plants slowly mature into small trees which produce fragrant panicles of tiny cream flowers.

Ultimate Height: 2.5-4m (98-158in). Ultimate Spread: 1 - 1.5m (39-59in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Grow on in frost free conditions and acclimatise to the outdoors over 7-10 days before planting out. Grow Cordylines on fertile, well drained soil. Choose a sheltered position in full sun. Cordylines are particularly well suited to mild coastal locations but do enjoy a fertile soil, so it is well worth incorporating some well rotted manure into the soil when planting.
Feed and water regularly until fully established. Once established, Cordylines need little attention, but will require some winter protection should temperatures dip below-5C (23F). In cold areas it may be preferable to grow Cordylines in large patio containers that can be moved undercover during the coldest months.
