A shrub for all seasons! Cornus alba, or Dogwood as it is commonly known, will provide interest no matter what time of year it is. In spring masses of creamy white flowers will appear which are much appreciated by our native pollinators, by summer the shrub will be covered in dense foliage and as the leaves fall in autumn they will reveal the stunning red stems which will remain on display all through the winter, brightening up even the darkest days. Height and Spread: 3m (10’).

Flowering Months
Water dogwood plants regularly throughout the growing season until fully established. After two years, Cornus alba will benefit from regular pollarding to encourage the brightest winter stems. Prune Cornus hard in early spring by cutting back all stems to within 3 buds of the base or to a permanent low framework. Apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the base of dogwood shrubs in spring.
Plant Cornus alba in a sunny position, in any well drained soil. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting, mixing it thoroughly and deeply. Cornus alba will happily grow in improved clay soils. Caution: Dogwood berries are harmful if eaten and the leaves may be irritant to skin and eyes
