Description Sowing How to Grow Delivery Reviews
A consistently popular variety of Dogwood, prized for its colourful autumn foliage and glowing winter stems. The autumn foliage is spectacular, when its green leaves turn to orange and gold before falling to reveal the bare stems. As the name suggests, Cornus 'Midwinter Fire' forms a twiggy blaze in winter, graduating from gold at the base of the plant, through pink, to bright red at the stem tips. This hardy, undemanding shrub is ideal for adding colour to sunny borders, woodland areas and winter gardens. Height and spread: 200cm (79").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Caution: Dogwood berries are harmful if eaten and the leaves may be irritant to skin and eyes. Plant Cornus in a sunny position, in any well drained soil. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting, mixing it thoroughly and deeply. Cornus will happily grow in improved clay soils.
Water dogwood plants regularly throughout the growing season until fully established. After two years, Cornus will benefit from regular pollarding to encourage the brightest winter stems. Prune Cornus hard in early spring by cutting back all stems to within 3 buds of the base or to a permanent low framework. Apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the base of dogwood shrubs in spring.
