Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Reviews
This upright, deciduous shrub is popular for its flaming winter stems which glow in shades of yellow, orange and red. Bright green foliage in summer compliments the small white flowers, which are followed by blue-black berries in autumn. As with many Dogwoods, the leaves slowly take on autumn shades of orange and red before dropping to reveal the dazzling stems underneath. Perfect for brightening those dreary winter days, Cornus sanguinea 'Winter Flame' is easy to grow and truly a year-round specimen. Height: 3m (10'). Spread: 2.5m (8'). Supplied in 9cm pots.

Caution: Dogwood berries are harmful if eaten and the leaves may be irritant to skin and eyes. Plant Cornus sanguinea in a sunny position, in any well drained soil. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting, mixing it thoroughly and deeply. Cornus sanguinea will happily grow in improved clay soils.
Water dogwood plants regularly throughout the growing season until fully established. After two years, Cornus sanguinea will benefit from regular pollarding to encourage the brightest winter stems. Prune Cornus hard in early spring by cutting back all stems to within 3 buds of the base or to a permanent low framework. Apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the base of dogwood shrubs in spring.
