Named after the Japanese word for yellow – “Sekkan” - Cryptomeria japonica ‘Sekkan Sugi’ creates a strong impression in the landscape with its creamy yellow foliage, which is at its most intense in spring and early summer before maturing to dark green. ‘Sekkan Sugi’ forms a medium, pyramidal to columnar tree composed of softly pendulous branches covered in awl-shaped leaves. In autumn, spherical cones dangle from the ends of the branches. A graceful specimen tree for garden borders, it also suits container growing. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height: 4m (13ft) Spread 1.5m (5ft) in 20 years.

Grow Cryptomeria plants in moist, but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Choose a position that is sheltered from cold, drying winds.

Once established, Cryptomeria plants require no pruning or maintenance.
