If you are looking for a flowering shrub, Deutzia is a beautiful choice. It is fast-growing, and from early summer it produces small, two-tone, pink flowers, that have a sweet scent. Deutzia 'Strawberry Fields' has been awarded the Award of Garden Merit by the RHS. It's a good addition to a flowering shrub border in the back garden. Height and Spread: 2m (6.5').

Grow Deutzia in any moist, fertile, well drained soil in full sun.

Feed and water Deutzia plants regularly until fully established. Once established, Deutzia shrubs will require little attention. After flowering, cut back the flowered shoots to a pair of healthy buds. On mature plants, remove a fifth of the oldest shoots from the base of the plant. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or other organic matter around the base of the plant after pruning.
