Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

Dryopteris filix-mas ‘Cristata’ is a charming version of the common ‘Male Fern’ that comes with extra frills! The fronds are adorned with crested tips, giving an interesting, crinkly appearance. This vigorous fern forms strong, upright shuttlecocks of emerging fronds in the spring. Plant it in drifts through woodland-type borders. Its fresh green foliage offers a good textural contrast to other ferns and shade-loving plants. Deciduous to semi-evergreen. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height: 60 - 90 cm (24-35in). Spread: 45 - 60 cm (18-24in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Feed and water ferns regularly until they are fully established. Leave old fronds on over winter to protect the crown. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost around each plant in spring.
