From late winter to early spring, clusters of white silky buds give way to bright banana yellow blooms with a delicious honey scent. Borne on bare stems, the flowers of this rounded deciduous shrub fill the garden with their wonderful aroma when much of the garden is still dormant. Edgeworthia chrysantha ‘Grandiflora’ is a superb specimen shrub for borders or woodland gardens, adding an exotic touch and fragrance. Although hardy to -5°C (23°F), Paper Bush appreciates a sheltered position to prevent frost damage to the flowers. Height and spread: 150cm (59").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Grow Edgeworthia plants in fertile, moist, well drained soil in full sun or dappled shade, with shelter from strong, cold winds. Plant Edgeworthia chrysantha at its original soil level and firm well before watering to settle the soil.
Water regularly throughout the growing season until Paper Bush plants are well established. In areas with extreme winters, Edgeworthia chrysantha is best given some winter protection with horticultural fleece. Paper Bush requires little pruning. In early spring prune out any damaged shoots or those that spoil the symmetry of the shrub, and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant.
