  • Perfect for shaded areas
Picture a carpet of English bluebells drenched in warm april sunlight; their scented violet-blue bells nod delicately above glossy green foliage. These native beauties love to nestle in dappled shade at the base of trees, or for a particularly bold impact, try naturalising them in large informal areas of grass. Bluebell bulbs are ideal for autumn planting. For spring planting choose bluebells in the green. Height: 30 cm (12"). Bulb size: 6/7cm. Only cultivated stock used.

Bluebells particularly dislike dry soil in summer so water regularly during the growing season until bulbs are fully established. When growing bluebells, it is essential to allow their foliage to die back naturally. Avoid mowing areas of grass where bulbs are naturalised until their foliage has completely died back.
Caution: Harmful if eaten. Bluebells should be planted from September to November. Choose a position in dappled shade in reliably moist, well drained soil. Bluebells prefer a soil rich in organic matter so add some well rotted manure or compost to the soil. Space bulbs randomly throughout the planting area at a distance of 10cm apart and plant them at a depth of 10cm (4"), with the pointed end facing upwards. For natural looking drifts, gently cast them across the planting area and plant them where they land!
