No doubt one of the most stunning plants around, Euonymus alatas is a dense, bushy, deciduous shrub with dark green, oval-shaped leaves that turn spectacular shades of red in autumn. The branchlets of this winged spindle often develop conspicuous corky wings, which are revealed after all the leaves are shed. Flowers are small and green, followed by purplish-red fruits, splitting to reveal orange seeds. Height & Spread: 2.5m (8').

Grow Euonymus plants on moist, but well-drained soil in full sun or partisl shade. Plants will tolerate exposed and coastal gardens, and may give better autumn colour when grown in full sun.

Spindle trees are low maintenance and require very little pruning - simply trim them to remove any dead, diseased or damaged growth. Caution: harmful if eaten.
