It is perfect for seed germination as it has water holding and aeration properties. Cover seeds with a thin covering to allow seed to germinate. Vermiculite is a good medium for rooting cuttings, mixing 2 parts to 1 part compost creates an open environment for cuttings to grow and develop. Drainage is aided using Vermiculite.
