A hazel hedge is always going to look attractive, no matter what time of year. In spring, masses of yellow-green catkins appear before the dense foliage smothers the stems from tip to toe. Later in the year a heavy crop of cobnuts will form which are always a Christmas favourite! Most Hazelnuts are self-fertile and therefore do not require a pollination companion. Hazels will begin to produce nuts three to four years after planting. Supplied as 60 - 90 cm bareroots (24 - 35") Height: 8m (26'). Spread: 8m (26'). Planting distance: 30cm (12"). (4 plants per metre for a single line hedge).

Nut trees do not suffer weed competition well, so keep weeds and grass clear from the of base of the hedge. Water young plants during particularly dry periods until fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the hedge. This will help to retain moisture throughout the summer. Supplied as 60 - 90cm bareroots (24 - 31") Height: 8m (26'). Spread: 8m (26'). Planting Distance: 30cm (12"). (4 plants per metre for a single line hedge).
Prior to planting Hazelnut trees, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Cobnut trees at the same soil level as they were growing at the nursery, and water well to settle the soil.
