Heptacodium miconioides 'Tianshan'

This little-known shrub deserves to be more widely grown. Fast-growing and easy-care, it provides multiple seasons of interest and is especially valued for its usefully late flowers. Heptacodium miconioides ‘Tianshan’ forms a vase-shaped to rounded, multi-stemmed shrub or small tree that is perfectly sized for smaller gardens. Dark green, glossy, leathery foliage has long points and hangs down gracefully from the branches. From August, Heptacodium miconioides ‘Tianshan’ bears masses of white, jasmine-like, scented flowers which are followed by showy red sepals, providing further interest until October. With maturity, it develops beautiful yellow-brown bark which is best appreciated by removing the lower branches. In autumn, the leaves turn yellow before falling, providing an excellent backdrop to the display of red sepals. Height: 200-400cm (6.5-13ft). Width 2-3m (6.5-9ft).
