The tropical looking flowers of Hibiscus syriacus 'Hamabo' are perfect for adding an exotic feel to borders and patio containers. Chiffon pink blooms are blotched with raspberry red at the base of each petal, making an eye-catching late summer display. Although Hibiscus is often late to come into leaf in spring, the three-lobed, deep green leaves are worth the wait as they make an excellent foil for summer-flowering perennials. Great for sunny borders and requiring little maintenance, this deciduous shrub is an easy addition to any garden. Height: 250cm (98"). Spread: 150cm (59").

Plant hibiscus in rich fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil, and situated in full sun. When growing hibiscus plants in patio containers use a soil based compost, such as John Innes No.3.
Feed and water regularly. As plants increase in size they will require repotting into increasingly larger pots. Prune Hibiscus in late spring by shaping the plant and removing any damaged or dead stems. Hibiscus is often one of the last shrubs in the garden to break bud, so be patient with plants that appear to have died over winter - they may just be dormant still!
