Hibiscus syriacus ‘Mixed’ delivers a long-lasting display of flamboyant, trumpet-shaped blooms in shades of pink, white and lilac. Flowers are produced in abundance, and despite their exotic looks, these deciduous shrubs are a doddle to grow, injecting colour into the late summer and autumn garden just when other plants are beginning to fade. Drought tolerant once established, Hibiscus are perfectly happy in sunny containers or planted into a freely-draining border. The upright form of this deciduous shrub gives it a narrow footprint, making it ideal for small-space gardening. The flowers attract a wealth of beneficial pollinators. Height: 150cm (59in). Grow Hibiscus on rich fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil, in full sun. When growing hibiscus plants in patio containers use a soil based compost, such as John Innes No.3.

Feed and water hibiscus regularly until fully established . Apply a dry mulch such as bark chips to the base if the plant in autumn to protect from winter cold. Prune hibiscus in late spring, removing any stems that have died back or been damaged over winter. Hibiscus are often one of the last shrubs in the garden to break bud, so be patient with plants that are slow to start into growth in spring – they may remain dormant until May!
