The latest innovation in the Incrediball series, Hydrangea arborescens ‘Sweet Annabelle’ features the same huge flowerheads on strong stems, this time in a silvery pink. Dark raspberry buds open to massive pale pink blooms, before finally adopting greenish tones. ‘Sweet Annabelle’ flowers on both old and new wood, providing an extended bloom period. Excellent for borders in shade or sun where the soil remains moist. It also makes a useful container plant for shady areas next to the house. Height and spread: 120cm (4ft).

Hydrangea arborescens prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any non alkaline, fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply.

Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant.
