Hydrangea macrophylla 'Light My Fire' is a dramatic and colour changing variety. The showy mophead blooms will be lime-green when they first appear before maturing to their bicolour beauty. The white flowers are edged in deep red that will gradually fade to white as they mature. Hydrangea 'Light My Fire' has so many different colour tones that every day they will look different. In the Autumn the foliage will turn to red and gold and the faded blooms will provide interest later in the year. A compact and well-branched shrub that is ideal for planting in patio pots or borders that deserve a prominent position in the garden. Height and spread: 120cm (48").

Hydrangea macrophylla prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively plant hydrangea macrophylla in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.

Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: Contact with hydrangea foliage may irritate the skin and eyes and all parts are harmful if eaten.
