Hydrangea serrata ‘Veerle’ is one of the hardiest of varieties, making it well-suited to northern gardens and more exposed sites. This easy and robust shrub readily earns its place in the garden, rewarding with a second season of interest in the autumn when the foliage blazes red and orange.
If you are looking for an informal hedge which is a little bit different from the usual choices, Hydrangea ‘Veerle’ looks stunning in mass plantings, providing a ribbon of colour over a long season. Compact and dense, it works equally well in a container or as a specimen shrub in a flowerbed. Height and Spread: 120cm (47in).
Note that the flower colour of your Hydrangea will depend upon your soil pH with blue tones dominating in soils with a pH of 7 or less and pink tones in soils above pH 7. For the deepest blue flowers right through the season we recommend the use of Hydrangea Colourant.

Hydrangea serrata prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively plant hydrangea serrata in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. If necessary, hydrangeas will tolerate hard pruning of the oldest stems to a few buds from ground level. This will also encourage larger flower heads to be produced. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.Seeds and garden supplies will normally be delivered within the time period stated against each product as detailed above.
