Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Reviews Video
Originating from South America, these are one of the bulb world’s best kept secrets! Clumps of bright green foliage emerge in the autumn and winter followed by an abundance of star-shaped flowers in spring, which are borne over a longer period than most spring bulbs. The flowers have a delightfully sweet honey fragrance in contrast to the leaves which have an unusual onion scent when crushed. Vigorous and easy to grow, plant Ipheion 'Mixed' in borders, beneath deciduous shrubs, or in containers for a colourful spring display. Height: 15cm (6"). Spread: 5cm (2"). Supplied as bulbs.

Flowering Months
Ipheion plants require little maintenance but in winter, will benefit from a dry mulch, such as straw or bark chips, to protect them from prolonged hard frosts. Allow the foliage of starflowers to yellow and die back completely before removing in summer.
Plant Ipheion bulbs, pointed end facing upwards, from September to November at a depth of about 8cm (3"), spacing them 5cm (2") apart. Choose a sunny position in fertile, moist, well drained soil that does not dry out. Alternatively plant them in patio containers to enjoy the scent up close. Caution: Irritant to skin and eyes.
