Palest blue petals that are intricately etched with deep blue veins, brave the winter cold in February and March. A flash of bright orange on the fall of each petal draws the eye to this mesmerising dwarf Iris. Given its tiny proportions, this superb reticulata Iris is surprisingly vigorous, forming large swathes of winter flowers as it multiplies over the years. RHS AGM variety, Iris ‘Katharine Hodgkin’ makes a dazzling display in rockeries, borders and containers, or planted beneath trees and shrubs. Height: 15cm (6"). Spread: 10cm (4").

Caution: Irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten. Iris reticulata bulbs should be planted in late Autumn at a depth of approximately twice their own height. Choose a position in full sun in moist, free draining soil. To create a natural effect, cast the bulbs across the area and plant them where they land. Alternatively, plant bulbs in deep containers of loam based compost such as John Innes No. 2 and grow on in a greenhouse or on a cool sunny windowsill for an early indoor display.
When growing dwarf iris, allow their foliage to die back naturally before removing it in order to feed the bulb for the following spring. Divide overcrowded clumps of dwarf iris bulbs in autumn. Keep pots of iris reticulata just moist during their dormant period and gradually increase watering as growth begins.
