Gradually acclimatise Italian Cypress trees to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days. Plant Cupressus sempervirens in any well-drained soil in full sun, with shelter from strong winds. Incorporate plenty of compost or well-rotted manure prior to planting. Alternatively grow Cupressus sempervirens in large containers using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Mediterranean Cypress is drought-tolerant once established.
Water regularly throughout the growing season until Italian Cypress trees are well established. Cupressus sempervirens does not require any pruning; this may spoil its natural shape. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant in spring.
