Lavender stoechas ‘Ruffles Blueberry’ is a compact French lavender, boasting a high flower count of fat, dark purple heads topped with large, ruffled bracts in violet-blue. The neat mounds of grey-green foliage are more strongly aromatic than English Lavender, emitting a powerful camphor-like scent that makes it the favourite lavender for potpourri and essential oils. Lavender stoechas ‘Ruffles Blueberry’ is perfect for planting close to your favourite seating area or as a low hedge where you can breathe in its heady perfume every time you brush past the aromatic foliage. Less hardy than common English lavender, it rewards with showier flowers and a much longer blooming season - regularly snip off the faded flower heads and it will keep pumping out blooms from May into October. The strong perfume is an irresistible lure for pollinating insects and it makes a great choice for butterfly gardens. Height and spread: 45-60cm (18in-24in).

Grow French lavender plants on free draining soil in full sun. Lavenders dislike wet ground, particularly during winter. Improve heavy soil conditions by adding coarse grit or sharp sand prior to planting. When growing French lavender in large patio containers, use a well drained soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. After planting, prune lavender plants to encourage bushy growth.

Water regularly throughout summer until lavender plants are fully established. Once established, they are reasonably drought tolerant. Immediately after flowering, prune French lavender back to within 2cm (1") of the previous year’s growth to maintain a compact, well shaped plant.
