Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

Better known as Eidelweiss, Leontopodium alpinum is an utterly charming hardy alpine perennial. Distinctively soft and felt-like, the silvery star-shaped blooms make a striking display above the neat clump of narrow, greyish foliage. This alpine favourite thrives on excellent drainage, particularly during the winter months, so is perfect for growing in containers, rockeries and on very light soils or scree. The unusual-looking blooms of Eidelweiss make lovely dried flowers too. Height: 25cm (10"). Spread: 20cm (8").

1 x 1 Litre Potted Plant (KA5723)

Pot up young edelweiss plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When plants are well grown, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Grow edelweiss in full sun on non acidic, well drained soil. On heavier soils, incorporate plenty of grit to improve drainage, prior to planting.
Deadhead faded edelweiss flowers to extend the flowering season throughout the summer. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of Leontopodium in spring to maintain their vigour.
