Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

This deciduous Magnolia has been specifically developed by a renowned New Zealand breeder to avoid spring frosts. Perfect for Magnolia lovers in colder gardens, Magnolia ‘Cleopatra’ has a later blooming season, flowering for up to 4 weeks in April/May. The huge, dark pink/purple goblet-shaped blooms have a bluish undertone which lends them an unusual metallic sheen. A vigorous cross between Magnolia soulangeana ‘Sweet Simplicity’ and Magnolia ‘Black Tulip’, ‘Cleopatra’ grows into a narrow, columnar tree clothed in large, fresh green, ovate leaves. Its medium size makes it a good choice for smaller gardens. This vigorous, free-flowering hybrid also blooms reliably from an early age. Height: 4m (13ft). Spread: 2m (6.5ft).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

1 x 10 Litre Potted Plant (KF2569)

Plant magnolias in a sunny or semi shaded position with protection from cold winds and hard spring frosts. Magnolias prefer a rich, moist, well drained, acid to neutral soil. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting, mixing it thoroughly and deeply. Magnolia plants establish quicker when their roots are shaded. Following planting, apply a mulch of rotted bark chips, manure or garden compost, taking care not to mound it around the stem of the plant.
When growing magnolia in a patio container use a blend of ericaceous compost mixed with John Innes No. 3.
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young magnolias are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted bark chips or garden compost to the base of the plant. Magnolias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape and remove damaged stems or crossing stems.
