Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Reviews
Mahonia japonica is a popular, evergreen shrub. It offers long racemes of golden yellow flowers which bear a strong ‘lily-of-the-valley’ perfume to brighten up those long winter days. After the flowers fade, blue-black berries appear. The hardworking shrub will grow in semi shady positions as well as full sun. This Mahonia has a bushy habit with it distinctive spiky leaves. Height: 1.5m (59"). Spread: 2m (78").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Grow Mahonia plants in any rich fertile, well drained soil in full shade. Although Mahonia plants are hardy they will appreciate a sheltered position away from cold, drying winds. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil.
Mahonia plants require little pruning but may benefit from a trim in spring to remove any damaged or diseased stems and lightly shape the plant.
