Metasequoia are one of the few deciduous conifers and are highly prized for their stunning autumn foliage. Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Chubby' is a rare cultivar that is much slower-growing and more compact than the species, making it suitable for smaller spaces.

With an elegant, pyramidal habit and reddish-brown, fibrous bark, this Dawn Redwood makes an impressive specimen tree. Like other conifers, ‘Chubby’ has needle-like foliage but this foliage is soft and feathery, with the ‘needles’ arranged in opposite pairs. The foliage is bright green in summer but puts on a stunning show in the autumn when it turns brilliant oranges and bronze before falling. Height: 4 - 5 m (13 - 16 ft). Spread: 2 - 2.5 m (6 - 8 ft).

Grow Metasequoia in any reliably moist, well drained soil in full sun. They particularly enjoy damp or wet sites.

Feed and water Metasequoia trees well after planting. Once established these trees will look after themselves.
