Mulberry ‘Charlton House’ is a majestic landscape tree which comes with a distinguished history. The magnificent 400-year-old mulberry at Charlton House in London, said to be the oldest planted in England, is the venerable ancestor of this cultivar.

These slow growing trees are highly ornamental, developing a broad crown of gnarled, corkscrew branches clothed with large and distinctive heart-shaped leaves which turn butter yellow in the autumn. Although it may take 8-10 years to produce the fruit, it is well worth waiting for. The large, black berries are incredibly juicy and pop in the mouth with an explosion of sweet and tart flavour. They can be eaten fresh off the tree or made into jam.

Mulberry ‘Charlton House’ is an easy to grow, disease-free tree which is self-fertile. Patient gardeners who plant one in their garden will be rewarded with a tree full of character and the opportunity to savour a unique soft fruit which is not available commercially.

Ultimate Height: 12m (39'). Ultimate Spread: 15m (49')
