Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

Parrotia persica is a choice tree prized for its stunning autumn foliage and unusual spring flowers. ‘Bella’ is an exceptional cultivar that boasts not only fiery autumn colour but also tinted foliage in the spring. The large, deeply veined oval leaves are dark red/purple tinted when young, maturing to glossy green then turning rich shades of orange and wine red in the autumn. In late winter, before the foliage emerges, it also bears clusters of unusual, spidery, crimson flowers that resemble Witch Hazel. Mature trees develop attractive, flaking bark which provides an additional winter feature. Parrotia persica ‘Bella’ forms a small to medium branching tree with an upright habit. It makes a stunning specimen tree for small to medium gardens. Height: 6m (19.6ft). Spread: 4m (13ft).

Gradually acclimatise Persian Ironwood trees to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days. Plant Parrotia persica in any moist, fertile, well-drained soil; it will grow happily in improved clay soils. Incorporate plenty of compost or well-rotted manure prior to planting. Choose a final position in full sun or partial shade.
Feed and water Parrotia trees regularly until fully established. Once established, Parrotia persica requires little attention except for the occasional removal of damaged, diseased and misplaced shoots in late winter or early spring. Exposed flower buds may be damaged by hard frosts.

Van Meuwen strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
