Phlox are classic perennials, painting broad blocks of colour which provide a wonderful backdrop to airier plants and grasses. From midsummer to autumn, Phlox paniculata ‘Eva Cullum’ produces soft, billowing panicles of bright pink blooms with a magenta eye. Their old-fashioned, sweet fragrance adds to their appeal and the flowers are highly attractive to butterflies. Thrives in moist, fertile soils including heavy clays and good for bringing colour to partially shaded sites. RHS AGM. Height: 90cm (36in). Spread: 75cm (30in).

Grow phlox plants in any fertile, moist, well drained soil in full sun or semi-shade. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil prior to planting.

Feed and water regularly, particularly during dry periods, until young phlox plants are fully established. After flowering, lightly shear the stems to encourage lots of fresh new growth.
