Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Diablo D'Or' is a beautiful shrub for your border. With architectural stature and contemporary looks, this shrub is grown for its rich coppery-red leaves. In summer, contrasting clusters of dainty, pink tinged white flowers appear, beautiful and unexpected against the dark foliage. They are followed by glossy red seed heads, which last until autumn.

A colourful foliage shrub, it looks stunning with other shrubs such as Berberis, Elaeagnus and Euonymus. Height and Spread: 1.5m (4.9').

Flowering Months
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young Physocarpus plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Ninebark requires little attention. After flowering, cut back the flowered shoots to a healthy pair of buds, unless seedheads are required for late season interest. Physocarpus opulifolius tolerates fairly hard pruning and may be cut back by half every few years to maintain a smaller size. On mature plants cut back about one quarter to one fifth of the oldest shoots to their base, to promote strong new growth.
Plant Physocarpus in a fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun or semi-shade. Physocarpus plants prefer an acid to neutral soil but will tolerate more alkaline soils. Incorporate organic matter such as well-rotted manure or compost into the soil prior to planting.
