Pinus parviflora 'Glauca'

Pinus parviflora 'Glauca' is a small, slow-growing conifer, narrow and conical when young but widely spreading with age, featuring an irregular but flattened canopy. The stiff needles grow in bundles of 5 and are grouped predominantly at the ends of twigs, creating distinctive brush-like tops. The needles are a striking silvery blue and are very twisted, lending a coarse, ruffled texture to the canopy. Young bark is purplish grey, maturing to dark and fissured on old trees. Hanging cones appear even on young specimens and can persist on the tree for six or seven years, leading to a conspicuous abundance of cones on old trees.

Pinus parviflora 'Glauca' is tolerant of sea winds and pollution making it a perfect choice for coastal gardens. Mature height: 12m (39ft). Spread: 8m (26ft).
