Polemonium caeruleum 'Album' is a dainty perennial that will readily seed about between other plants creating a naturalistic, cottage-garden look. From clumps of sparse foliage arise tall, upright stalks topped with clusters of nodding, white flowers with golden stamens. Flowering in May to June, it makes a charming addition to early summer borders in part shade, woodland gardens or beneath deciduous trees and shrubs. It is perfect for wildlife-friendly gardens as the flowers are a valuable source of early nectar and pollen for insects emerging from hibernation. The pretty foliage of Polemonium caeruleum 'Album' is an attractive feature in itself, forming little leaflets arranged into a ladder pattern which has earned it the name of ‘Jacobs Ladder’. Grow Polemonium plants in semi shade. Polemonium plants prefer a well drained, moist, fertile soil. On drier soils, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or compost prior to planting.

Water plants regularly throughout summer until fully established. Deadhead faded Polemonium flowers regularly to encourage more blooms throughout the season. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of Jacobs Ladder in spring to maintain their vigour.
