Plant flowering cherry trees in full sun or semi shade, in any well drained garden soil. Add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost prior to planting to improve heavy clay or light sandy soils.

Water Prunus plants regularly until fully established. Prunus glandulosa requires little attention. Simply remove any diseased, damaged or crossing shoots to maintain a healthy framework. When pruning cherries it is preferable to wait until midsummer to avoid the risk of ‘silver leaf' infection. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant in spring, taking care not to mound mulch up against the stem.
