Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

Prunus laurocerasus ‘Miniredia’ is a dwarf laurel that is perfect for tough, reliable, evergreen foliage in small spaces. Suitable for growing either in the open border or containers, it makes a useful alternative to box for all-season structure and colour, without the pest and disease problems that box is vulnerable to. It can also be planted in groups and used for low, evergreen hedging.

Prunus laurocerasus ‘Miniredia’ is the smallest laurel available, forming rounded, densely branching mounds that reach only around 1m in 10 years. Glossy, deep green, leathery leaves look impeccable all year. In spring the young foliage emerges bronze.

Tough and adaptable, Prunus laurocerasus ‘Miniredia’ is suitable for all sites, tolerating both poor soil and partial shade. Panicles of creamy-white, scented flowers, 10-12cm long, appear in May, attracting beneficial pollinators. These are followed by small round fruits, red at first, becoming black when ripe. Height and spread (in 10 years): 1m (39in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Grow Cherry Laurel plants in sun or shade, in any moderately fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Prunus shrubs at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil. When planting a Cherry Laurel hedge, position the individual plants at a distance of 75cm (2’,6") apart.
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Once established, Prunus plants require only occasional attention, removing any damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in summer after flowering. If grown as a hedge, Cherry Laurel can be trimmed from early to mid spring, and tolerates hard pruning when necessary. Caution: harmful if eaten.

Van Meuwen strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
