Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
The cherry laurel is a hardy evergreen shrub with mid-green very shiny leaves. Prunus laurocerasus 'Rotundifolia', holds an RHS AGM and has a bushy habit with broad leaves. Suitable for hedging, it provides a sheltered home for birds in winter; whilst racemes of small white fragrant flowers provide food for bees in April. Dark, cherry-like fruits that are also loved by wildlife follow in summer, turning from red to black as they ripen. Growing well in dry shade as well as full sun, this plant requires little maintenance, and being a more compact variety, it is particularly suitable for hedging. Can also be grown as a specimen in large containers. Height: 5m (16'). Spread: 4m (13').

Plant Cherry Laurel in full sun or semi shade, in any fertile, well drained garden soil except for shallow chalky soils. Add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost prior to planting to improve heavy clay or light sandy soils.
Water Prunus plants regularly until fully established. Prune Cherry Laurel in late spring after flowering to remove any damaged or misplaced shoots and contain the plant within its allotted space.
