Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

Simple, but stunningly beautiful, the pure white blossom of Prunus 'Umineko' is a spectacular sight against a blue spring sky. Ascending branches form a compact crown and this columnar habit makes ‘Umineko' a good choice for tighter spaces and avenue planting. In mid to late April, 'Umineko' is smothered in umbels of large, single white flowers about 4cm wide, the flowers opening just as the new leaves begin to unfold. The single flowers reveal contrasting reddish-pink stamens and are highly attractive to bees. An additional season of interest occurs in autumn when the dark green leaves flame orange, red and purple.

Prunus ‘Umineko’ comes with a distinguished pedigree as it was raised by the famous cherry breeder, Collingwood 'Cherry' Ingram, in the 1920s. This outstanding variety has been recognized with an RHS Award of Garden Merit. Maximum height: 9m (27ft) Spread: 4m (12ft).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

1 x 12 Litre Potted Plant (KF3319)

Plant cherry trees in any moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Incorporate plenty of compost or well-rotted manure prior to planting. Choose a final position in full sun.
Water Prunus trees regularly until fully established. Ornamental cherries require little aftercare. Simply remove any diseased, damaged or crossing shoots to maintain a healthy framework. When pruning cherries it is preferable to wait until midsummer to avoid the risk of ‘silver leaf’ infection. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant in spring, taking care not to mound mulch up against the stem.

Van Meuwen strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
