Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

Possibly one of the most floriferous of all flowering cherries, Prunus yedoensis puts on a spectacular spring show. This oriental beauty extends tiers of slender branches massed with voluminous clouds of white to pale pink flowers that sparkle in the spring sunshine. Popular as a street tree in Japan, it makes a stunning focal point for a garden lawn. The single, cup-shaped flowers are lightly almond-scented and usually appear just before the deep green, serrated leaves. The flowers are followed by small black fruits that are attractive to birds. A second season of interest is provided in the autumn, when the foliage turns brilliant shades of orange and crimson. Prunus yedoensis forms a medium-sized, upright tree with a spreading crown. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height and spread: 5m (16.4ft) in 20 years. Ultimate Height: 12m (39ft). Ultimate Spread: 8m (26ft).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

1 x 25 Litre Potted Plant (Height 150cm+) (KF3320)

Plant cherry trees in any moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Incorporate plenty of compost or well-rotted manure prior to planting. Choose a final position in full sun.
Water Prunus trees regularly until fully established. Ornamental cherries require little aftercare. Simply remove any diseased, damaged or crossing shoots to maintain a healthy framework. When pruning cherries it is preferable to wait until midsummer to avoid the risk of ‘silver leaf’ infection. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant in spring, taking care not to mound mulch up against the stem.

Van Meuwen strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
