Rhododendron 'Pink Star' bursts into life with an explosion of starry, deep pink blooms creating a sensational spring spectacle for any setting. Each flower features an impressive twenty to thirty slender petals that seem to swirl and dance above the dark and equally slender, semi-evergreen foliage. This versatile rhododendron forms a neat, symmetrical dome that is easy on the eye and perfect for spaces that are restricted to container growing such as balconies and courtyards. It is equally useful in flower beds, creating a big splash of colour even where space is at a premium. This versatile shrub remains a manageable size and shape, tolerates full sun to semi-shade and is easy to grow, offering an impressive display for the minimum of effort. Height and Spread: 60cm-1m (24 - 39in).

Grow Rhododendrons in moist, well drained, acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Many dwarf Rhododendrons can cope with a sunny position provided that the soil remains reliably moist. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Rhododendron plants are best grown in patio containers, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Rhododendrons are surface rooting so it is important to avoid planting them too deeply.
Water Rhododendron plants regularly throughout the growing season. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed Rhododendrons in spring with a slow release fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds. Border grown Rhododendrons will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their shallow roots from winter cold. Take care not to mound the mulch too close to the stem as this may cause it to rot. If necessary, lightly prune Rhododendron plants in June to remove damaged shoots and restrict size.
