Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
Ribes sanguineum King Edward Vii' is an upright shrub, which becomes smothered in clusters of deep red flowers early in the growing season. Later in the year these develop into black berries, that provide interest in the autumn months, and a food source for garden birds. This Flowering Currant is a low maintenance shrub that is a good choice for a medium sized cottage, woodland or informal city garden. This plant thrives in full sun. Height: 250cm (98"). Spread: 150cm (59").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Grow Ribes in a sunny, in any well drained soil. Ribes odoratum will happily grow in a semi-shaded spot but may produce fewer flowers and berries. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Flowering Currant shrubs at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Ribes requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the old stems to ground level.
