Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

Skimmia ‘Kew Green’ is a tough, evergreen shrub, useful for its dense, spreading domes of glossy, aromatic leaves that provide a green foil throughout the seasons in addition to fragrant winter/spring flowers. A male hybrid, Skimmia ‘Kew Green’ develops attractive, greenish buds in autumn that last through winter before opening into sweetly-scented, greenish-yellow flowers in late winter and spring. The flowers last for several weeks and are much appreciated at a time of the year when little else is happening in the garden. It makes a good choice for a woodland border, spring border or a low-maintenance front garden. It also works well in a container as a foliage foil for winter bedding plants. Place it somewhere you can readily appreciate its sweet fragrance. ‘Kew Green’ is one of the best male, flowering varieties. A pollinator for female, fruiting varieties, plant it alongside Skimmia japonica 'Olympic Flame' or Skimmia ‘Temptation’ so you can enjoy both flowers and fruit. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height: 1m (39in). Spread: 1.5m (4.9ft).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

1 x 2.5 Litre Potted Plant (KF3386)

Grow Skimmia plants in a dappled or fully shaded position, in moderately fertile, rich, well drained soil which can be neutral to acidic in pH. Avoid full sun, as this can cause yellowing of the leaves. Alternatively grow Skimmia in large containers, using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3 mixed with ericaceous (acidic) compost.
Skimmia plants will require very little pruning. After flowering, trim them lightly to keep a good shape, and remove any dead or damaged growth.
