Skimmia Japonica 'Olympic Flame'

Skimmia are robust and rewarding evergreen shrubs valued for their multi-season interest. Skimmia japonica ‘Olympic Flame’ forms a dense, rounded shrub that works equally well as a container specimen or for structural planting in the border. Glossy, dark evergreen, leathery foliage provides a handsome backdrop throughout the year and a useful foil for other flowering plants. Over winter, attractive pink flower buds are formed which open in spring into clusters of sweetly fragrant, creamy-pink flowers that are adored by pollinators. The spring flowers are followed by an abundance of bright red berries that shine brilliantly against the dark foliage. Skimmia japonica ‘Olympic Flame’ makes a reliable, low-maintenance foundation shrub for borders or containers, thriving in shady spots and providing all-year-round colour and interest. This female variety requires planting near a male variety such as 'Rubella' to bear fruit. Maximum height and spread: 90cm (35in).
