Spiraea japonica 'Firelight' is a colourful, deciduous shrub that provides an ever changing display throughout from spring to autumn. The spring foliage emerges a reddish bronze hue, colouring to green in summer with clusters or deep pink flowers which are loved by bees. By autumn the foliage has transformed to red and purple to round off a dazzling season of colour. This compact variety works well in mixed borders or a container on the patio, and makes a fine choice for a wildlife area. Height: 120cm (47"). Spread: 100cm (39").

Spiraea is best grown in a sunny position, in any fertile, moist, well-drained soil.

Prune Spiraea cultivars in early spring, before the new leaves develop. Reduce all growth back by about a third to a permanent framework.
