Trillium kurabayashii 'Ruby Realm'

Plant bare-root trilliums at the earliest opportunity following delivery. Should soil conditions prevent planting directly into borders (if soil is frozen or waterlogged), bare-root trilliums should be potted up, watered sparingly and grown on in a cool position. Choose a position in full or partial shade on fertile, moist, well drained soil. Work some compost or general fertiliser into the top 20cm of the soil. Dig a hole wide enough to accommodate the roots of the plant spread out across the soil and deep enough that the rhizomes sit 5cm (2") below soil level. Backfill the hole with soil and firm the plant in gently. Water well to settle the soil.

Water trillium plants regularly until fully established. In autumn, clear away dead foliage and faded trillium flowers. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure to the base of the plant in early spring.
