A dwarf Weigela with both beautiful foliage and flowers, Weigela ‘Arabian Nights’ offers an extended season of colour. Its compact size also means it is perfect for maximising interest in small spaces. Plant it into a container on a terrace, patio or balcony garden, or use it in a mixed border. Weigela ‘Arabian Nights’ forms rounded mounds of mahogany black foliage and striking black stems. The foliage provides the perfect backdrop to cherry-red, tubular flowers in spring which last for up to 4 weeks. Blooms continue to be produced intermittently throughout the summer. The dark foliage is great for creating depth in small spaces whilst bringing out the colours of adjacent plants. For a striking display, try contrasting it with yellow foliage plants. Height and spread: 60cm (24in).

Grow Weigela in a sunny or semi shaded position, in any well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Weigela at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.

Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Weigela requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the old stems to ground level.
