An improved version of the better-known variety, Weigela 'Red Prince', ‘Cherry Love’ is more compact and the flowers are a truly sumptuous deep, cherry-red shade, a precious colour which is sparse in the garden during its late spring to early summer display. With a compact habit, densely clothed in simple, oval green leaves, ‘Cherry Love’ is equally suited to container growing or mixed borders where its prolific blooms will provide a banquet for pollinators. Height: 125-150cm (48-59in). Spread: 80-100cm (31-39in).

Grow Weigela in a sunny or semi shaded position, in any well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Weigela at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.

Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Weigela requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the old stems to ground level.
