Weigela florida 'Moulin Rouge' is perfect for adding a splash of colour to borders and containers. This deciduous, hardy shrub has red spring flowers, set against a lovely backdrop of gold and green variegated foliage. Moulin Rouge is reliable and easy to grow, with a pleasingly upright habit. It makes an attractive choice for a mixed border, and for the wildlife garden - its nectar-rich blooms attract a variety of pollinating insects. Height: 1.8m (6’). Spread: 1.2m (4’).

Grow Weigela in a sunny or semi shaded position, in any well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Weigela at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.

Water regularly throughout the growing season until young Weigela plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Weigela requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the oldest stems to ground level.
