Weigela 'Nain Rouge' is a dwarf deciduous shrub with a rounded habit. Its gently cascading branches are covered in blooms in May and June. The bright red tubular flowers contrast beautifully with the dense, dark green foliage. In autumn this turns to shades of red and orange, to produce a final burst of colour. Compact and easy to grow, this is a lovely choice for containers, borders and the edge of woodland plantings. Height and spread: 90cm (36”).

Grow Weigela in a sunny or semi shaded position, in any well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Weigela at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.

Water regularly throughout the growing season until young Weigela plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Weigela requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the oldest stems to ground level.
