Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

In early summer, when Wisteria floribunda ‘Naga Noda’ is in full bloom, it is one of those plants that stops you in your tracks. Cascading down from an arch or pergola you will gasp at the impressive length of the flower racemes, which can reach up to 50cm. The deep violet-blue, pea-like flowers also fill the air with a sweet fragrance. Like other Japanese Wisterias, the blooms appear at the same time as the green, pinnate leaves. A gorgeous climber that is vigorous and easy to grow. The twisting stems of mature specimens continue to provide interest long after the flowering display has finished. Height: 6m (19.6ft). Spread: 3m (9.8ft).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Grow wisteria plants in a sunny or semi shaded site in any moist, well drained soil. Wisteria flower buds can be damaged by hard spring frosts so choose a sheltered position. Prior to planting add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil. Provide the twining stems with an appropriate and sturdy support, such as strong trellis or wires attached to walls and pergolas.Standard wisterias will especially need a sturdy support when grown to protect the head from damage by strong winds .
Feed and water regularly until fully established. In autumn or spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Prune wisteria in July and again in February. During the first two years, prune wisteria to create a framework of permanent stems. Tie in selected lateral shoots to sturdy supports and cut back unwanted growth. Once the desired framework has been created, continue pruning wisteria twice a year to contain the plants growth within its allotted space.
